Microbiology & Safety Testing

Each cosmetic product must have its own Product Information File (PIF) containing detailed information about the product. This is a legal requirement and the files are open to inspection by the competent authorities.

The PIF must include (but not limited to):

  • The┬áCosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR)
  • details of methods of manufacture in accordance with good manufacturing practice (GMP)
  • proof of the effect claimed (where justified)

The CPSR is conducted to ensure that the cosmetic product is safe for human health when used under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions, This report must include (but not limited to):-

  • stability/compatibility testing data
  • preservative efficacy testing data (where appropriate)
  • toxicological profile

  • Provision of the CPSR
  • Collation of information for the PIF
  • Advise on labeling and claim substantiation
  • Product registration

ESP work in close association with UKAS accredited microbiological consultants MCS Laboratories Ltd offering:-

  • Preservative efficacy testing (Challenge testing)
  • Antibacterial activity assessments
  • Total Viable Count (TVC)
